Kogi Governorship Election: DSS Abuja Summons Faleke, Audu's Son

Operatives of the Department of State Security headquarters in Abuja have reportedly detained James Abiodun Faleke and Mohammed Audu on Saturday morning.
Vanguard quotes its sources as reporting that Faleke arrived at the DSS headquarters at about 10am today, January 9, and is yet to be released. When contacted by Vanguard, Duro Meseko, the spokesman of the Audu/Faleke campaign organization, confirmed the invitation. The organization is yet to come to terms with the invitation at “a critical period in the struggle for the Lugard House through constitutional means,” the representative said.
The DSS spokesperson did not return Vanguard’s calls, but an anonymous insider source has also confirmed the invitation, saying the matter is not connected with the upcoming governorship inauguration in the state.
Faleke, a second-term member of the House of Representatives, was the running mate to the late Kogi state governorship candidate Prince Abubakar Audu who died before the official conclusion of the election on November 21, 2015.
Since then, Faleke has been inisting he was the right owner of the mandate given to him and the late Prince Abubakar Audu, and a winner had emerged at the Kogi governorship election.
The National Working Committee of the APC, however, has proposed Yahaya Adoza Bello as the replacement to the late Audu, as Bello came second in the party’s governorship primaries. Following the development, Faleke took the INEC to a Federal High Court in Abuja with the hope of stopping the supplementary poll in the state.
Subsequently, when Bello emerged governor-elect, Faleke went to the Election Petitions Tribunal to challenge Bello’s victory.
Speculation has surfaced that threats of violence coming from Faleke’s supporters could be the reason behind the DSS summoning him to the headquarters.
